George Graden was the son of a lieutenant in the Revolutionary War and is supposed to have been born in Campbell Co in 1794. In February 1803 George Graden "a poor orphan of 8 years last September" was apprenticed to Frank Spilman (Newport Court Order Book A p. 308) to "learn the art and mistry of Shoe and Bootmaking." He obtained a fair education and a good general reading and became especially familiar with the scriptures. He united with Four Mile Church in 1812 and was licensed to preach in 1822 and was ordained in the Regular Baptist Church 8 Nov 1823.

For many years he made it a rule annually to visit and preach to every church in his Association. At different periods he served the churches at Willow Creek in Bracken Co (14 years) Indian Creek in Harrison Co (15years) Union, Harris Creek, Oak Island, Short Creek, Falmouth, Decoursey’s Creek, Dayton, Twelve Mile and Bank Lick. He also held protracted meetings at many other churches. He died Sep 13, 1870. The Kentucky Genealogist Apr-June 1983, Vol 25 #2

George Graden married Matilda Maxwell (court record says Manville) 27 Feb 1820 in Campbell Co. Matilda was born in 1808 in Kentucky.  Information from Bob Maxwell, shows a second marriage for George.  That would indicate that the first Matilda died in 1831. In fact a probate record at the courthouse in Newport, dated 26 Sep 1831, in Court Order book #, shows the estate of Matilda Graden, deceased. George married his second wife, Matilda Forsythe on 24 Sep 1832 in Campbell County.

After her husband died Matilda moved to Jackson Township, Sullivan, Indiana and is there in the 1880 census with Frances, Elizabeth, Thomas and Lafayette, and two grandchildren Cora Graden b-1871 in Alexandria; and Ida Granden b-1873 in Alexandria. She is living two doors from her daughter Margaret (Graden) Baker.
