Distinguished service given by Lt. Col. Fred M Warren, former
Southgate city solicitor, in the performance of his duties, as executive officer
of Reserve Command, Seventh Armored Division, during operations against Germany
has brought to him a recommendation for the Legion of Merit.
Col. Warren, husband of Mrs. Peggy B Warren, of 1347 S Ft Thomas avenue, Ft Thomas, and son of William U Warren, wears the Bronze Star Medal and the Silver Star, having performed in an outstanding manner in four major European battles. Col. Warren, who resided with his wife in Southgate prior to entering the service, practiced law in Newport with his father, who is the oldest practicing attorney in Campbell county.
A graduate of Newport High School, the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Law College of the university, Col. Warren has a son, Pvt. Fred Warren Jr. with the Marines at Parris Island SC. Before entering the armed forces Jan 1, 1941, Col. Warren had served as a member of the Northern Kentucky Cavalry Unit of the Kentucky National Guard. His outfit in the Army became a mechanized unit and he was stationed at Camp Huelene, where he served as assistant chief of staff. He has been overseas since August 1944.
According to the recommendation: "Lt. Col. Warren, while a member of the armed forces of the United States, distinguished himself by exceptionally meritorious services as executive officer of Reserve Command, Seventh Armored Division, during extended operations against the Germany army. Throughout a five month period of armored warfare that began in December 1944, with the command's participation in the routing of the enemy from the Belgium salient and ended in May 1945, with the surrender of German troops near the Baltic Sea.
Col. Warren received the Silver Star in a citation of July 11.
