NEWPORT
The funeral of Fred Thompson, the well known butcher, took place
yesterday afternoon and the remains were interred at Evergreen Cemetery. One of
the chief mourners at the funeral was Captain William Crout, the well known
conductor n the K C. He and the deceased were life long friends and while in
their teens in 1862, they both ran away from their homes in Covington and
volunteered their services to their country and served throughout the war.
Prominent among the many floral pieces around the casket was a large and magnificent one form Captain Crout, in memory of his deceased comrade.
