DEATH
Death for the sixth time within the past year stalked again in the ranks of the Newport Police Department and laid low a member in the person of Fred “Whitey” Bradhold, one of the most popular men on the force.
Bradhold had charge of the Workhouse and was stationed mostly at Police Headquarters, where he made many friends by his uniform politeness and close attention to duty. His death occurred shortly after 5 am this morning and it came as a great shock to his superior officers.
He had only been ill four days and his death was due to a violent attack of gastritis. He was 27 years of age and is survived by a widow. The funeral arrangements have not been completed. The death of Patrolman Bradhold recalls the demise of five other of his fellow officers within the year. The other members who passed away before Bradhold were Preston Thornhill, Thomas, Cottingham, Joseph Ward, John McAfferty and John Flynn. Owing to political differences in the city departments, only one of these vacancies has been filled out, that of Patrolman Flynn.
