Fred Wenz, 89, Civil War veteran died Wednesday at his home, 611 McKinney av. Dayton. He was commander of the Joe Hooker Post of the GAR. The post has but six surviving members. Wenz was born in Baden Germany. His parents brought him to this country when he was a year old. They settled in New York. Sixty-two years ago they came to Dayton and Wenz has resided in Dayton since that time. He was a retired harness maker.
He is survived by a son, Frank, Cheviot O. and two daughters, Mrs. Louise Fillager, Dayton and Mrs. Tillie Fillager, Oxford O. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm at the Vonderhaar & Stetter funeral home, Third and Overton Streets, Newport. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
