Frank Spilman Thatcher
Frank Spilman Thatcher, farmer and fruit grower, near Alexandria, Kentucky, was born at "High View Farm" where he resided his life time from 28, April 1856, thru August 6, 1939. He spent his entire life in Campbell Co.
His father John Thatcher, was born in Campbell County 14 March 1809. Upon reaching man's estate he was married to Miss Margaret Spilman, daughter of Henry Erskine and Mary (Morin) Spilman. They had six children : Daniel, married Elizabeth Tarvin, Henry died young, Mary died at an early age, Rose married George T. Youtsey, of Newport, Kentucky. Maria married Edward Horner, of Cold Spring, Kentucky. Frank Spilman Thatcher, is the subject of this sketch and the youngest child of the family. Frank Spilman Thatcher, was educated in the schools of Campbell County. Frank was engaged in agricultural pursuits all his life. He grew small fruits and vegetables. In later years he gave considerable attention to raising and dealing in horses, saddle and work horses alike.
Frank Spilman Thatcher married Mary Elizabeth Grant 27, April 1882. She was born 23 December 1857, in Kenton County Kentucky, and died 9, January 1929, in Campbell Co. Their children were: Mary Alma, died young. Edith Eleanor never married; Bessie Julia married J. Frazier Lemon, no issue. Ruth Cleveland married Wilbur Ehlen, on issue. Frances Jeannette, married George Kees, they had five children. Jack Henry Thatcher, married Lillian Cole, they had three children.
Mr. Thatcher helped to organize the Campbell County Fire Insurance Company in 1901. In 1903 he helped to organize the "Bank Of Alexandria" of which he was also a director and at the time of his death was president of the bank. He was a member of the Methodist Church, and a member of the Alexandria Cemetery Board.

Services for Frank S Thatcher, president of the Alexandria Bank and Campbell county sportsman, will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at his home near Alexandria. Burial will be at Alexandria. Mr. Thatcher who was credited by friends with importing the first Belgian draft horses into the United States, died Sunday at his home. He was 83.
Mr. Thatcher was also founder of the bank. In addition, he was a former president and for many years a director of the Campbell County Agricultural Society, a former president and director of the Alexandria Fair Board and one of the founders and a life long member of the Alexandria Methodist Church. A native of Alexandria, Mr. Thatcher was prominent in many organizations there and one of the largest land owners in northern Kentucky. He was a familar figure at county fairs in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.
His fancy saddle and draft horses have been exhibited at most county fairs in this section of the country. He leaves a son, Jack, of Alexandria, also widely known horseman; four daughters, Mrs. Jessie Lemon, Cincinnati; Mrs. George P Kees, Alexandria, whose husband is Campbell County treasurer; Mrs. Ruth Ehlen, Bellfontaine O. and Miss Edith Thatcher, who lived with her father; two sisters Mrs. Ross Youtsey, Alexandria and Mrs. Marie Horner, Ft Thomas and eight grandchildren.
His wife Mary Elizabeth Grant Thatcher, died about 10 years ago. Tharp & Stith, Alexandria, funeral directors are in charge of the arrangements.

The town of Alexandria, the county seat of Campbell, mourns the loss of one of its most prominent and beloved citizens, Frank S Thatcher. Mr. Thatcher was the founder and president of the Alexandria Bank and was one of the founders of the Alexandria Methodist Church. He also was one of hte dominating figures in the promotion of the Alexandria Fair for many years.
Being a native son of Alexandria, Mr. Thatcher not only saw the progress of the town, but played a major part in all progressive and civic and welfare affairs in the town. In his passing Alexandria has lost a useful citizen.
