Pvt. Frank Schmidt, 20, member of a prominent Bellevue family, has been killed in action in Korea, the family has been notified. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Schmidt, 230 Fairfield avenue, Bellevue. A Department of Defense telegram which arrived Thursday night said Pvt. Schmidt was killed in combat last Sunday but gave no details.

Pvt. Schmidt was a brother of Rev Vincent Schmidt, assistant pastor of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Another brother, Louis is to be ordained a deacon Sunday at St Mary Cathedral, Covington. The young soldier was with a heavy mortars company in the Ninth Infantry Regiment and had been in Korea since mid-April. Pvt. Schmidt was engaged to be married to Miss Joan Fessler, 1020 Orchard street, Newport. He attended Sacred Heart School in Bellevue and later graduated from Newport Catholic High School. He was employed at the Standard Publishing Co. Cincinnati, when he entered the armed services last Nov 2.
