Private Frank
Jordan
Kentucky Post, Tuesday, 15 August 1899, page 1
Private Frank Jordan of the Thirty-first Regiment, who has been in the guardhouse for a week, charged with desertion and attacking an officer with a knife, escaped Monday night and has not been recaptured. Jordan was considered a desperate man and an extra guard was placed over him.
Monday he was put to work shoveling coal in the officers quarters in the cellar. Private Hastly, of the Thirty-first, was guarding him. When the guard turned his head Jordan dashed up the steps, and locking the guard in the cellar, made his escape. The police of all adjoining cities were at one notified.
Jordan was to have been tried Monday afternoon. If convicted by the court martial he would have received 10 years in a miitary prison.
