Frank Griggs, 811 Thornton st. Dayton was elected by Dayton Council Monday night to fill the office of Mayor of Dayton, made vacant last week by the death of Mayor W C Quinby. Albert Cappelle was elected to fill Griggs office as councilman of the Fourth Ward.
Griggs was candidate in the primary election for mayor but was defeated by a small margin for the nomination. Griggs was sworn into office by William C Martin, city clerk.

Mayor-elect William Smith of Dayton will not take office until Jan 1, according to law. Mayor Frank Griggs will serve until that time.

Frank (Butsch) Griggs, 304 Poplar street, Bellevue, died Wednesday at Speers Hospital after a long illness. A native of northern Kentucky for 75 years, he was a retired paint contractor. He was a member of Henry Barnes Lodge F&AM Dayton; Indra Consistory, Covington; Scottish Rite, Syrian T Shrine, Maccabees, Bellevue Eagles and Knights of Pythias.
The father of the late William Griggs, vice president of the Ohio Press & Printing Co. who died Nov 6. he leaves one son, Aubrey, San Diego; one brother Dr. S O Griggs, Ft Thomas and two sisters, Mrs. Naomi Herrick, Cleveland and Mrs. Abigail Emmons, Akron. Services will be 10:30 am Monday at the Dobbling funeral home Bellevue. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
