Frank Ernsterhoff

Frank Ernsterhoff, son of John Ernsterhoff, a florist, residing at Highland av. and Alexandria pike, made a desperate attempt to kill his father at the family home yesterday afternoon. Young Ernsterhoff is suffering with chronic alcololism to such extent, that his mind has become unbalanced. Yesterday he secured a rifle and meeting his father, he took aim and fired. The bullet barely missed the elder Ernsterhoff's jugular vein and plowed its way through the lower part of his chin.
The shooting attracted the attention of the other members of the family and the drink crazed man was overpowered and disarmed after a desparate struggle. Later he was locked up in a room at the family residence and a guard placed over him. Dr. George J Herman was called and dressed Ernsterhoff's wound, which is not serious. This morning John Ernsterhoff came to Newport to consult with State Attorney W A Burkamp, for the purposed of having his son tried for lunacy.
Dr. Herman gave the elder Ernsterhoff a signed certificate to Mr. Burkamp, in which he states Ernesterhoff's son, Frank, is suffering from chronic alcoholism and he has delusiona and hallucinations and is a dangerous person to be at large; he is liable at any time to do himself or parents bodily harm. He recommends Ernsterhoff be confined until such time as she shall regain sanity. It is likely Ernsterhoff will be ordered committed to same institution as recommended by Dr. Herman. There will be no criminal prosecution.
