ALEXANDRIA SOLDIER MISSING IN ACTION-Tech. Sergt. Frank Kees, 27 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Kees, Alexandria, has been missing in action since Aug 1, his parents revealed Thursday. Sergt. Kees, who was a turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber, has been missing since engaged on a mission in the Middle East, his parents were informed in a telephone message from Washington Wednesday night.
After enlisting in the Army Air Forces 15 months ago, he underwent training at Biloxi, Miss. Las Vegas, Nev. El Paso, Tex. and overseas two months ago. He was home on furlough this spring. Sergt. Kees is a graduate of Campbell County High School, Alexandria and the University of Kentucky. Last word received from him came on July 23 when he sent a cablegram to his brother, Staff Sergeant Grant Kees, stationed at Kearns Utah. Another brother Corp. Jack Kees is at a point of embarkation on the east coast. He also has another brother, George Kees, 18, and a sister, Miss Bessie Kees, 16. HIs father operates a butcher shop in Alexandria.

Mr. and Mrs. George Kees, Alexandria, were informed Monday by the
War Department of the death of their son, Sergt. Frank J Kees, a bomber engineer
and gunner, on Aug 1 in the air attack on the Rumanian oil refineries.
Sergt. Kees, a member of the US Air Force for the last two years, had been in the European war theater for seven weeks prior to his being killed in action. Sergt. Kees is the grandson of John Kees, Campbell county treasurer and a nephew of Ben Kees, well known Covington grocer and business leader.
Following his graduation from the Campbell County High School, Sergt. Kees attended and later graduated from the University of Kentucky. Besides his parents, Sergt. Kees is survived by three brothers, Sergt. Grant and Sergt. Jack, both stationed in this country and George Jr. of Alexandria and one sister, Bessie, also of Alexandria.

Sergeant Frank J Kees, engineer and gunner in an American bomber, was reported killed in a raid over the Rumanian oil fields August 1. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Kees, Alexandria, a grandson of John Kees, Campbell County Treasurer and a nephew of Ben Kees, widely known Covington grocer and president of the Kentucky Grocer's Association.

A Kentucky airman who was killed in action over the Romanian oil fields, will be awarded the Distinguished flying Cross posthumously at a presentation ceremony at the University of Cincinnati Saturday at 1:30 pm. He is Tech Sergeant Frank Kees, 27, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Kees, Alexandria. The medal will be awarded to his father by a representative of the Air Transport Command. Kees had previously received the Purple Heart and a posthumous commission of honorary Kentucky Colonel by Governor Keen Johnson
A graduate of Alexandria High School and the University of Kentucky, he enlisted in the AAP April 1942 and was sent overseas in June.

Graveside services will be held at 3 pm Thursday at Alexandria Cemetery for T Sgt. Frank J Kees, who was killed Aug 1, 1943, during a B-29 raid over the Ploesti Oil Fields in Romania. Twenty six years old, he was engineer and crew chief of his plane. He was a graduate of Campbell County High School, Alexandria an the University of Kentucky, Lexington. At UK he served as president of Delta Chi fraternity Sgt. Kees was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Kees and brother of Miss Bess Kees and Grant, Jack and George Kees all of Alexandria. Muehlenkamp funeral home, Alexandria, is in charge of arrangements.
