A PRIVATE'S FALL

Francis R Curtis, a private in company G, located at Fort Thomas, fell from a second story window to the pavement about 2 pm yesterday afternoon and was instantly killed. He was sitting in the window of the reading room and is supposed to have fallen sleep, no one being in the room at the time of the accident.

The occupants in the rooms below were startled by the sight of his falling body passing their window and upon rushing out a most horrible sight met their gaze. The unfortunate man lay in a heap on the pavement, his skull crushed and his brains oozing out. A slightly perceptible flutter of the heart was felt and all was over. Sympathizing comrades carried him to the hospital. His brother was immediately telegraphed the sad accident and arrangements for the burial will be made when he is heard from. The flag is at half mast.

The dead soldier was of good moral habits, quiet, sober and a favorite with his fellow comrades. He was 43 years of age and has been in the service 15 years. He enlisted in the 3d Artillery in 1875, and after serving his time there he joined Co 1, then stationed in Newport. His next enlistment was in the 6th Cavalry, from which he was transferred to Co G last September.
