Flora, the year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Meyer, of the
Licking pike, Campbell County, was shot and almost instantly killed last evening
at her home. The slayer was her 6 year old brother, who fired a pistol ball into
her breast as she lay sleeping on a couch. No one was a witness but the
grandparents were in an adjoining room when they heard the shot. They found
their grandson, Erwin, standing beside the bed with a revolver in his hand. His
face was blanched with terror and he was speechless. His little sister with
blood trickling from a wound in the right breast.
The parents of the child were at work in the field. They heard the report of the shot and hurried to the house. Mrs. Meyers saw at a glance what happened and grasped the infant in her arms as its life went out. She was frantic with grief and it was with difficulty the infant was taken from her arms.
Dr. Regan was summoned, but his presence was not needed. Meyer stated the boy found a revolver that he had kept under a pillow and was playing with it. Just how it was exploded is not known. The killing occurred shortly before dark last evening.
