TWO SMALL BLAZES
The Newport Fire Department had two runs to Box 53, caused by two
small blazes at 505 Central av. a fram cottage occupied by Mrs. Virginia
Lumpkins, colored, and family. The first run was made shortly before midnight
and the blaze, which was started by a defective flue, was quickly extinguished.
At 4:30 o'clock this morning the firemen were again called to the place to extinguish a second blaze among the rafters of the building The loss is trifling, but the members of the Lumpkins family had to make hurried exits from the building in scanty attire.
