Frank Barber Fire
Cincinnati Enquirer, 23 November 1892, page 6
NEWPORT
A fire that at first seemed to threaten the entire lower part of
the city called the department last evening about 6:45 o'clock to the foot of
Fourth street, where the shanty boat belonging to Frank Barber was completely
destroyed by fire.
The boat was used as a work shop by Mr. Barber and was stocked with oars, lamps, partly finished skiffs and a set of valuable tools and with the boat valued at $1000.
The cause of the fire is unknown but is supposed by the owner to be the result of spontaneous combustion, as a lot of greasy rags and paper piled in a corner and there was no fire on the boat. This is supposed to be the cause unless it was the mark of an incendiary. A number of lamps, life preservers and other paraphernalia belonging to Harvey Meyer's boat, which was stored in the burned boat, is a complete loss.
