NEWPORT
The City Council at its last meeting, directed the Mayor to give
notice of an intended application to extend the city's corporate limits and
Mayor Berry has issued the notice printed below. It will be seen to comprehend
Dayton, Bellevue and Finchtown, Alexandria being omitted for the present. Public
sentiment on the extension here involved will be much divided. Colonel Taylor
opposes the exchange strongly.

NEWPORT
THE little child of Mr. Robert Nelson, who was dangerously burned
a few days ago at Finchtown, is slowing recovering. A large amount of coal is
being daily shipped from the elevator at Finchtown to Frankfort and Lexington by
the Short Line Railroad.
SAMUEL MAXWELL, residing at the head of Isabella street, fell backward down at flight of stairs at Robson's Distillery at Finchtown, last evening and broke two of his ribs, besides other severe injuries sustained. Dr. Phythian was promptly called to his assistance, who administered the necessary remedies.

Five men in the employ of the Elevator Company at Finchtown, while cutting ice to move a flatboat, were precipitated into the cold waters of the Licking, all of who succeeded in jumping out except John Whittlesy, who was with some difficulty rescued from drowning.

A man whose name we could not learn, employed in Robson's
distillery at Finchtown, fell into a vat of boiling slop Saturday afternoon and
was severely scalded.
A collision of two empty freight trains took place about 1 o'clock yesterday morning on the short Line Railroad, near Finchtown, caused by a wrong signal given by the switch tender. Ed Egan, an engineer, was badly hurt about the head and the draw bars on five of the cars broken.

A CHILD BRIDE-Judge Bennett yesterday married Robert P Ledford and Susie Lunsford, both of Finchtown. The bride was a mere school girl and her general youthful appearance created much comment among the loungers about the courthouse. She said that she was old enough and as the couple had a written consent from the father of the bride. Judge Bennett performed the ceremony. The groom was about 30 years of age.
