Ferdinand Schaefer

Ferdinand Schaefer was born October 6, 1813 in Osterfein, Oldenburg. He
landed in Baltimore May 21, 1832. Deprived of all money he first set to
earn something to continue his journey to Cincinnati which he had set as the end
of his journey. He worked as a hired hand with farmers in Maryland and
Pennsylvania and in October of 1833 he arrived in Cincinnati.
Though diligence and perseverance he acquired quite a fortune. For many years he was partner of a Loan Association known as Schaefer and Woehrmann. After the death of Mr. Woehrmann he retired from business and lived as a private citizen in his home on Broadway.
He was one of the founders of the German Pioneer Club of Cincinnati and he died in his home on 415 Broadway on January 2, 1882.
