Everett A Denham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett P Denham, 709 Dayton pike, Dayton, helped the Fifth Field Artillery Battalion celebrate its 175th anniversary recently at Kitzingen, Germany. Pfc. Denham, who is serving with Service Battery, Fifth Field Artillery Battalion, actively particpated in the festivies of the day. The program on the first day included competitions in athletic and military events.
In the morning of the second day a parade was held which Brig. Gen. Eric S Molitor, commanding general, First Infantry Division Artillery, presented trophies to the individual winners and to "B" Battery a plaque and Honor Battery Streamer. The record of the Battalion is said to be the finest in the US Army today and the only "D" Battery in its is the senior organization of this battalion and was formed in 1776 by Alexander Hamilton.
With 175 years of unbroken service "D" Battery trace its history back to the Revolutionary War with active participation and honor for every major action in our nations history. It is two years old than our nation and in 1784 was the only active unit in the US Army. Today the 5th Field Artillery Battalion is the medium artillery firepower of the famous 1st Infantry Division.
