NEWPORT
Mrs. Eva Hoffman, 57 years of age, was struck and instantly
killed by No 3, the west bound fast train on the C&O Railroad, last night. Her
head was cut in two and she was otherwise mangled about the body.
The remains were taken to the morgue of Radel & Co. where Coroner Digby viewed them. There is some question whether or not the old lady did not court death on the rail. While Coroner Digby has not as yet interviewed the train crew, he heard some rumors last night that she deliberately walked in front of the locomotive. For this reason he will not close the inquest until he had heard the stories of the engineer and fireman.
