George W Hawkins, Persimmon Grove constable, opened the siren on
his auto to appeal for the right of way as he sped toward Speers Hospital
Tuesday with a stricken patient. The patient, his mother, Mrs. Estella Hawkins,
66, Persimmon Grove, died a short time after admittance.
The Campbell county officer had been with his mother on a visit to her doctor. She had been under treatment for a heart condition. Besides her son, she leaves her husband, George T Hawkins, a sister, Mrs. Jessie A Wright, Nashville Tenn. and a grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at the Muehlenkamp funeral home at 10:15 am Saturday with other services following at the Persimmon Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 pm Friday.
