NEWPORT
At the Newport Barracks, a few nights since, Ernst Maurer,
sergeant of the guard, was found in the room of Mrs. Frost, the wife of the
chief bugler at the post, and a very worthy woman.
When Mrs. F. discovered his presence she screamed and alarmed a number of persons, who rushed into the room and took him away. He ws subsequently tried by a garrison court martial, resulting in his being reduced to the ranks.
