Erhart P Rummel, recently appointed by Mayor Helmbold as Police
and Fire Commissioner in Newport, was sworn in by City Clerk Peter J Krebs,
Saturday. He will take his seat next Friday night in the board.
His is a well known accountant and while not a politician, takes a lively interest in city affairs. The appointment is considered a good one.

The romantic engagement of Police and Fire Commissioner E P Rummel, of Newport, to Miss Marga Lauen, a pretty German actress, an account of which was exclusively given in the Post, has created much comment in the city. Miss Lauen lives in Prague, Bohemia and was a member of a German theatrical company which has toured this country for several seasons.
Rummel, who has been a Police and Fire Commissioner in Newport for the past two years, was fond of attending the German Theater in Cincinnati and it was there that he met and fell desperately in love. She reciprocated and they became engaged.
The marriage will take place in the early part of October. Miss Lauen will meet Rummel in New York, where the ceremony will be performed. Upon their return the couple will go to housekeeping at 720 Washington av.
