WOMEN SUFFRAGISTS

There is a very interesting fight going on among the members of the Women's Equal Rights Association in Newport. A meeting was held Tuesday night which for awhile was very warm. The association is anxious to put up women candidates for the Board of Education.

The association is composed of members of both parties and the fight is on which ticket the candidates should be places. Some claim that they can win on the Republican ticket, others making the same claim on the part of the Democrats. Many allege that they will withdraw in case the candidates are place upon either ticket. A communication was sent to John P Hodge from the association asking recognition on the Democratic ticket. Hodge stated to a Post reporter that the Democratic executive committee is favorable to four of the women candidates, with Mike Gels and Dr. J O Jenkins, the male candidates.

Another meeting of the association will be held at the office of Dr. Katherine Roebuck and an interesting debate upon the question is assured. The Newport Equal Rights Club at its next regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct 13, will have an election of officers. All members requested to be present.
