Funeral services for Mrs. Emma V Mason, 63, of 837 Central av. Newport, will be held Monday at 2:30 pm at the home of her sister, Mrs. Thomas Hughes, 1037 Columbia st. Newport. Mrs. Mason, wife of John Mason, Newport, city fireman, died Thursday at Speers Hospital, Dayton, following a short illness. She was born near North Vernon, Ind. but had been a resident of Newport the past 43 years and was well known.
She was active in fraternal affairs in Newport. She was a member of the GAR and Woman's Relief Corps and was a past president, past national aide and past department patriotic instructor in the Relief Corps. Mrs. Mason also was past president of Auxiliary No 1, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War; past grand noble grand of Golden Rod Rebekah Lodge No 32, IOOF and past president and secretary of the Golden Link Club, Newport.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Mason is survived by her sister, Mrs. Thomas Hughes; one brother and a number of nephews and nieces. Members of the William Nelson Relief Corps No 2 GAR Auxiliary will meet Sunday at 2:30 pm at Mrs. Hughes' home to hold services of the order. Golden Rod Rebekah Lodge No 2 will hold services for Mrs. Mason Sunday at 7:45 pm. All Rebekah sisters have been requested to attend.
