Emma Fisher

NEWPORT
The weird and pathetic ceremony of christening a ten days old
infant above the casket which contained the body of its dead mother occurred at
St Johns Church in Newport yesterday at 2:30 o'clock.
The complete and pathetic romance surrounding the affair was detailed exclusively in yesterday's Enquirer. About a year ago Will Fisher, a young wood engraver, eloped with and married Miss Emma Fredericka Stahl, a beautiful and lovable young lady.
Ten days ago a baby girl was born and three days ago, the girl-wife died. Her husband, almost distracted with grief, resolved to have the baby undergo the ceremony over its mother's coffin and take her name. The ceremony was performed by Rev Brandstettner, who afterward read the burial service at the grave of the girl wife in Evergreen Cemetery.
