NEWPORT
Miss Elsie Slocombe, 17 years of age, died Wednesday evening. She was a closed student and the aim of her life was to graduate from the Newport High School with high honors and she was able to do this, although carried to the stage on the night of the graduating exercises in an invalid's chair.

NEWPORT
The funeral of Miss Elsie Slocombe took place yesterday morning
from the family residence on Overton street. Services were conducted at the
Presbyterian Church by Rev J P Whitehead. Appropriated sections were rendered by
the choir.
The class of 1901 were present in a body and the following classmates served as pallbearers: Elsie Bernhart, Bessie Fennell, Ida Riek, Bessie Marxmiller, Julia Spring and Josie Tyler.
The deceased was laid to rest in her graduating costume. Among the many floral offerings was a beautiful tribute from the class, tied with the class colors, purple and gold.
