DRANK POISON
Elmer Goldsmith, 46, a laborer, residing near the corner of
Thirteenth and Putnam streets, Newport, committed suicide last evening at his
home, taking carbolic acid. Death ensued in 20 minutes, although Dr. Jeancon
used every means to save his life. Goldsmith had been quarreling with his wife
and family for some time.
Yesterday he came home and announced his determination of ending his existence. He went out and about 8 pm returned with a vial of carbolic acid. He drank the full two ounces. His daughter Lida notified Officer Ratican and Keens. Dr. Jeancon was summoned and was first intended to send him to Speers Hospital, but Goldsmith breathed his last.
Goldsmith leaves a wife, three sons and three daughters. The funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.
