Elizabeth Trusdell
Cincinnati Commercial Tribune, Wednesday, 9 April 1862, page 2
A rumor was current in Newport yesterday, that George Trusdell,
who resides about five miles beyond Alexandria, had shot his sister, Elizabeth
Trusdell. But upon inquiry it appears that the shooting was altogether the
result of accident. On Friday last, Mr. Trusdell received intelligence that his
house would be robbed on the Saturday night following, and accordingly he sent
his wife and sister to the house of a neighbor, while he stationed himself on
the premises with a revolver to watch for the prospective burglar.
About ten or eleven o'clock his wife and sister returned with the intention of playing a trick upon him, and commenced to fumble at the lock of the front door. Trusdell thinking it was indeed a burglar, discharged his pistol through the panel, the ball mist unfortunately taking effect in Miss Truesdell's abdomen, a wound, which it is feared will prove fatal.
