Mrs. Edwin Burlew Sr. 405 Kenton street, Dayton, received a telegram saying her son, Edward Charles Burlew, seaman first class, US Navy, is reported missing in action. He enlisted Sep 21 and had last written his parents Dec 10.

Navy Department announced Thursday that Seaman First Class Edwin C Burlew Jr. 19, of 405 Kenton street, Dayton was killed in action. The Dayton youth is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Burlew Sr. and the husband of Mrs. Ruth Burlew, who lives with her parents at 613 W Seventh street, Covington.

The Navy said Seaman Burlew was killed Dec 31, 1942, when a merchant ship was sunk. Prior to that he had been reported missing in action in the North Atlantic. It was reported that Seaman Burlew had been out at sea, but 21 days before he was lost in action
