Edward Schofield

Cincinnati Daily Star, Wednesday, 21 January 1880, page 6

Mr. Schofield says he was informed by the judge that a ferrman has to furnish $3000 in bonds, and then be in readiness to ferry at all hours or his bondsmen be fined. Mr. Schofield got tired of this sort of thing and gave up the business. In the County Court yesterday the Bellevue ferry question was settled in this manner:

Edward Schofield, the proprietor resigned and James Doleran was granted the ferry privilege on motion of Colonel R W Nelson on condition that he give bond in the sum of $2000 today. Mr. Schofield, according to the evidence elicited in the case, always conducted the ferry properl and to the best of his ability.
