NEWPORT
Ed Moore, the fireman met with a distressing accident yesterday
afternoon. He was exercising his horse on Monmouth, between Second and Third
streets, when it became frightened and shied at another horse which was running
away and lost his footing and fell on Moore's leg, breaking it at the n-- joint.
Moore was carried to the engine house where Dr. Phythian was contacted and after setting it, he was taken to the home of his mother on West Seventh street. Dr. Phythian says the break is a bad one and will confine Mr. Moore to his home for several months.

WINNERS OF THE ENQUIRER PRIZES
Edward Moore is 30 years of age and has been in the department
seven years, being one of the men to go in when the predecessors of the present
force resigned in a body. He is a brave man and daring, yet careful driver. He
handles the ribbons over the fastest hors in the department and it is no unusual
thing for a the hose wagon of the Ones to be the first at a fire with Moore
handling the reins.
He is an all round athlete and prior to his advent in the department was a baseball player and had received numerous offers of professional engagements. Moore secures the white rubber coat and silver badge offered by The Enquirer.
