Swept under the swollen waters of the Ohio River by the swift current, Clovis Ballentyne, Nelson Poloey and Ed Mauget, 514 York Street, all of Newport, were saved Saturday by companies and employees of the Cincinnati wharf boat.

Edward Mauget, of Newport escaped with his life Sunday while looking for a leak in the water pipe at his place, 514 York Street. He went into the cellar where the water was filling up and striking a match, the entire place was soon ablaze. Before Mauget could escape his hair was singed and his face burned. A little colored girl who was standing near was snatched out of harms way after her clothing was partly damaged by the flames.

Edward Mauget, a citizen of Newport, has been summoned to appear in Squire Donelan's court Friday to answer a charge of pursuing wild ducks with intent to kill. The offense was committed on April 19 and the information was filed by Frank Williams and Thomas Hoskins, river men who conduct a harbor for steam launches and light pleasure craft at the foot of Monmouth st.

Mauget was engaged in shooting at wild ducks in the Ohio River and was firing from the river bank in Newport. Mauget was very much surprised when Constable Evans notified him that he must answer the charge against him.

The case of Edward Mauget charged with shooting at wild ducks from the river bank at the foot of Monmouth Street, Newport, was tried yesterday before Quire Donelan. After hearing the evidence, Squire Donelan ordered Mauget to pay the cost and a fine of $5.

A warrant was issued Saturday for Edward Mauget of Taylor and Center Streets, Newport charging him with shooting a dog belonging to T D Davis, a neighbor. The shooting was done in the presence of Mrs. Davis, who was nearly thrown into hyterics.
