Edward Sean Harden
 

Edward Sean Harden was born 29 May 1837 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He enlisted in the Union Army from Camp Harrison, near Cincinnati on 8 Apr 1861 and served in Co G & E 5th Ohio Infantry. Edward served in Shenandoah Valley, the First Battle of Kernstown, the Battle of Port Republic, and the Northern Virginia Campaign. In 1864 Edward served with the forces under William T Sherman in the Atlanta Campaign and was part of Sherman's March to the Sea.

Edward was discharged 20 June 1864 and returned to Cincinnati where he married Mary Jane Ellison on 5 May 1869.

Edward died 2 June 1903 in Newport and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.

Edward P Harden Sr. died suddenly at his home 25 East Seventh Street, Newport, Tuesday evening at 9:30. He was in the yard when he fell over and uttered a cry for help. His daughter came to him also two strangers who were passing by at the time. Dr. Frank Locke was summoned, but he said the patient was beyond help. Mrs. Hardin, who was in attendance at a lodge meeting at the time was called and her husband died in her arms. The doctor stated death was due to a stroke of apoplexy.

He was a veteran of the Civil War and for a long time was the janitor of the GAR Hall and was a prominent member of the order. A widow, three sons and two daughters survive him.

Page 2-Edward P (sic) Harden Sr. of Newport Ky. died suddenly of apoplexy while walking in his yard at 25 East Seventh Street, Tuesday night. Mrs. Harden was attending a meeting of a lodge and arrived shortly before he expired in her arms.
