Edward "Chewchew" Grimme, 55, of 738 Central av. Newport died at his home early Tuesday following an illness of five years. Grimme formerly was a Newport councilman, being elected to terms in 1906 and again in 1908. He was a Spanish American War Veteran, a member of the A M Wetherill Camp No 5, Spanish American War Veterans, of the Newport lodge of Moose and of the Mingo Tribe of Red Men.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Carrie Roell Grimme and two brothers, Henry R Grimme, Newport, and Frank Grimme of Cincinnati. Funeral services will be in charge of the Spanish American War Veterans.

Edward J Grimme, 58, of 738 Central av. Newport, former city councilman and Spanish American war veteran, will be buried Friday in St Stephen Cemetery* with military honors. Members of the A M Weatherill Camp, USAW Veterans, of which Grimme was a member, will comprise a military escort while a salute will be fired over the veterans grave by a firing squad from the Ft Thomas army post.

The burial will follow a requiem high mass at 9 am at the Immaculate Conception Church. Grimme is survived by his widow, Carrie and two grandchildren. Members of the Weatherill Camp are to hold services at 8 pm at the home.

*Records show he was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
