Edward Enzweiler, 30, of Alexandria, faced three traffic violation charges Saturday as the outgrowth of a chase late Friday on Alexandria pike during which Donald Caldwell, 15, of 173 Main avenue, Highland Heights, was struck by a bullet fired by county police at his speeding auto. Enzweiler, a World War II veteran will face charges of operating an auto when under the influence of liquor, speeding and improper driving Tuesday before County Judge Odis W Bertelsman.
The boy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Caldwell, suffered a flesh wound in the right leg when a bullet fired by Patrolman Joseph Meier struck him as he was working in the yard of Mrs. Fred Manier at Alexandria Pike and Murnan road. Patrolman James Brasher was driving the police cruiser and as his fellow officer fired.
Unaware that the Caldwell boy had been wounded, police continued their pursuit and overtook the driver after a three mile chase. Police said they clocked the defendant's auto at 75 miles an hour.
