By Jim Reis, other information also comes
from the family files at the Campbell County Historical Society in Alexandria
Another prominent figure in Campbell County medicine in the late 1800s and early 1900s was John Todd, son of John Todd and Maria Shaw and brother of Clara Todd Youtsey, wife of James Youtsey. Born 27 Apr 1877 in Alexandria, Todd grew up in there and worked in his father's store before deciding to pursue a medical career. He attended the Ohio Medical College, from which he graduated in 1900.

Shot at Burglar-A nervy burglar with a long ladder had an exciting experience early yesterday morning at the home of Dr. John Todd on East Fifth street, Newport. The physician was awakened by the fellow's attempt to rise the window and he was considerable surprised to see a face peering into his bedroom.
He did not lose his presence of mind, however, and grabbing his revolver sent a number of shots at the fellow's head. His aim was bad and most of the bullets entered the window sill. It is not known how the visitor got down off the ladder, but he made good his escape. A bad gang is evidently operating in Newport and the police are making every attempt to apprehend them.

Dr. John Todd, Newport health officer was re-elected for a term of two years Friday night by the Newport Health Board. Dr. Todd has been health officer of Newport for several years and has made an excellent record members say. He was re-elected without opposition.
His handling of the Spanish influenza epidemic and other serious situations has won him praise from not only the state authorities, but from the federal government. The death rate in Newport has been lower than any city of similar size in the country, statistics show.

The career of Dr. John Todd, president of the Alexandria Fair and former Newport health officer, ended at 3:30 am Tuesday as he died in his sleep. He was 64. Dr. Todd had been in ill health for a number of years, but his death was unexpected by members of his family.
A native of Alexandria, Dr. Todd had been the leading figure in that community's annual fair for a number of years. He followed his father, John Todd Sr. as a member of the fair board after the latter's death in 1925. This past year he was elected president of the fair for his eighth consecutive time. Dr. Todd who was one of the organizers of the Newport Anti-Tuberculosis League, was treasurer of Evergreen Cemetery and had been a member of the Speers Hospital staff for the past 38 years. Dr. Todd passed the winter months of recent years in Florida, but his health prevented him from going to Miami this past year as was his custom.
He held Newport's health officer job for 27 years of which 25 were consecutive. Dr. Todd, who was a director of the American National Bank, Newport, first began the practice of medicine in Newport in 1900. He leaves his widow, Jessie Ware Todd; one son, Jack, operator of a Covington filling station; one daughter, Mrs. Hubbard Hood, Parks Hills and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Todd residence, Sixth
street and Park avenue, Newport, at 2:30 pm Thursday. Burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery.
