Kentucky Post, Monday, 10 May 1948, page 1

A Dayton volunteer fireman was overcome by smoke while fighting a fire at 1002 Second avenue, Dayton, Monday. The house was occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Leahy about two weeks ago. They were recently married and had established this as their first home.

Neither was home when the fire broke out in the kitchen. Mrs. Leahy is a nurse at Speers Hospital and was on duty when she received word her home was on fire. Mr. Leahy, a veteran of service with the US Marine Corps in the South Pacific area, helped firemen battle the blaze in his new home.

The ex-Marine, who was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for a wound suffered in action, now is an employee of the Fred Erschell funeral home, Newport.
