Dena Niewohner

Kentucky Post, Saturday, 30 January 1904, page 5

SEVERELY BURNED-Miss Dena Niewohner, of Saratoga Street, Newport, narrowly escaped cremation Friday afternoon. She was standing in front of a red hot stove and did not notice her calico apron when it caught fire. When she discovered the blaze she ran to the street screaming for help. Thomas Reay and Charles Messmer, two letter carriers of Newport, heard her screams and went to her rescue.

They were both badly burned about the hands extinguishing the flames. Miss Niewehner (sic) was burned about the face and hands, but it is not thought she inhaled the flames.
