LOADED REVOLVER-A shocking accident occurred at Ft Thomas Friday evening at 6 pm as a result of which Mrs. Carrie Schinkal will probably lose her life. David Kazee, a soldier of Company C, was cleaning his revolver and thinking he had removed all of the cartridges snapped the trigger to get the dust from it. The remaining cartridge exploded the ball entering the abdomen of Mrs. Schinkal, who was nearby. She was taken to Speers Hospital where four physicians attended her and succeeded in removing the bullets. They were Drs. Stine, Phythian, White and Senour. It is thought the woman cannot live. The bullet caused a perforation of the intestines in three places.
Kazee lived at the home of Mrs. Schinkal and there were two other soldiers present at the time of the shooting. Mark Peak of Company C and Maynard Jones of Company D, verified the story of Kazee of the accidental discharge of the revolver. Mrs. Schinkal made an affidavit at the hospital exonerating Kazee from any blame, claiming the shooting was accidental. Mrs. Schinkal has a husband and several small children living in Cincinnati and two grown boys, one of whom is studying medicine.
Kazee was arrested by Patrolman Schweiner and locked up at the post guardhouse. He stated he didn't know there was another cartridge in the revolver and pointed it at the women to scare her and was laughing when the shot was fired. He is a crack shot of his regiment. The Schinkal home is on Weirich Avenue at Ft Thomas, just beyond the reservation.

DAYTON-The physicians of Speers Hospital have achieved a triumph in surgery. Mrs. Carrie Schinkal, who was recently taken to the institution suffering with a gunshot wound in the abdomen, was pronounced out of danger Monday morning. The woman was accidentally shot two weeks ago at her home in Ft Thomas by David Kazee, a soldier. The bullet passed entirely through the woman's abdomen severing the intestines in several places. Wounds of this nature have always been fatal.
The woman was taken to Speers Hospital, where she was operated upon. At the time there was but little chance for her life. She rapidly began to recover and Monday was said to be out of danger.
