A TRUE MAN
The Cincinnati Gazette announces the death of Daniel Mayo, postmaster of Newport Ky. Mr. Mayo has held the office of postmaster at Cincinnati before he removed to Newport, and since at the latter place for a great number of years and has always advertised his list of letters in the Gazette.
At one time it was suggested that he should publish the list in a paper friendly to the then existing administration, to which he gave the following response, which we commend to the attention of officers in a like situation. There is food for reflection in it.
"I obey the directions of the law in selecting the paper of most extensive circulation. This is the duty required by my oath of office, but YOU SHALL not control me, where the law furnished me a rule of conduct to guide my official proceedings."

Daniel Mayo was age 76 and formerly of Roxbury MA. It is interesting to note that Daniel Mayo was listed in several 1824 newspapers as a candidate to be elector to vote for John Quincy Adams for President.
