At a Court held for Campbell County on Monday the 10th July 1797 at the house of Andrew Lewis in the Town of Newport agreeable to an act passed December 14th 1796, declaring that Newport shall be considered as the Seat of Justice for said County.

The Inhabitants of Newport and its vicinity having erected an House on the Public Ground of this County in said Town which they offered to the Court as the Court House of said County which being received and hereby acknowledged by them as such. It is ordered that the said Court be adjourned to the said Courthouse to meet at the hour of 12 on the Clock this day. Signed Henry Brasher
At a Court held for Campbell County at the Court house thereof in the Town of Newport the 10th July 1797 at the hour of 12 on the clock persuant to adjournment.
Daniel Symmes produced a License authorising him to practice Law in the Courts of this Commonwealth whereupon the Oath of Fidelity and the Oath of office were administered to the said Daniel & it is ordered that it be recorded that he be considered as an Attorney of this Court.
An Indenture of Bargain and Sale from Bartlett Bennet of the one part to Samuel Horsely of the other part was proved by the Witnesses thereto to wit Edward Webb, Thomas Markland & Thomas Whitaker and Ordered to be recorded.
Page 105-An Indenture of Bargain and Sale from same to Thos Markland (?written over) was proved by the Oaths of the witnesses thereto to wit Edward Webb, Thomas Whitaker and Samuel Horsely and ordered to be recorded.
On the Oath of William Daniel late Commissioner of this County setting forth that he had lost or mislaid the Certificate for his services for the last year amounting to L23-15-7 ordered that another Certificate be granted to him of the same purport as the one lost or mislaid as aforesaid.
The Commonwealth on a venire facias against Thomas Markland for failing to give in to the Commissioner a list of his Taxable property. Ordered upon hearing that the said Thomas be discharged.
Commonwealth against Jonathan Markland on venire facias for same charge. Ordered that the said Jonathan be dismissed.
The Commonwealth against George Corn on a venire facias for failing to give in a list of his Taxable property to the Commissioner of this County according to Law.
The above named George Corn having been duly summoned and not appearing though solemnly called. It is therefore considered by the Court that for the said offence he pay to the Commonwealth L5 also 6/9 Treble the amount of his Taxes and Costs for the use of this County and that he pay the Costs of the prosecution and may be taken &c.
Commonwealth on Venire facias against William Reed for not giving in a list of his Taxable property to the Commissioner.
An Indenture of Bargain and Sale from the Trustees of Newport of the one part to William Snodgrass of the other part was acknowledged by Henry Brasher one of the Trustees and Ordered to be certified.
A Patent from Isaac Shelby late Governour of this State to John Stephens for 1000 Acres of land in this County was presented in Court & ordered to be recorded.
The Persons appointed to view and mark out the nearest and best way from Henry Pickles on the Ohio to intersect the George Town Road at the Bullock pen near William Cummins's made a Report which is as follows that they had view'd & mark'd out a road from Henry Pickles Ferry on the Ohio to intersect the George Town Road after being duly Sworn beginning at said ferry and following a direction as marked by them intersecting the George Town Road at the Bullocks Pen at the lower Corner of Cummins's Meadow. Thereupon on the Motion of William Cummins Ordered that a writ in the nature of a Writ ad quad damnum issue according to Law returnable at the next Court and to be executed on the 17th Instant to ascertain the damages -that will be sustained by the said William in consequence of the intended Road aforesaid passing through his Land.
Ordered that Charles Morgan, James McClure, William Reddick & James Taylor or any two of them act as Commissioners to superintend the finishing the Court house built by voluntary Subscription in such manner as they may judge best & they are hereby authorized to collect the Money subscribed for the purpose of erecting public buildings and apply the Said Money or such part thereof as may be necessary for completing the said Court, house & they are also authorized to commence Suits against Delinquent Subscribers.
Ordered that William Edwards, William Crain, Thomas Johnson, Henry Brasher, Ellison Williams and William German or any three of them being Sworn duly before a Justice of the peace do view & mark out the nearest and best way from Dr. Selmans Farm to intersect the George Town Road and report to the next Court the conveniences and inconveniences which will result as well in Individuals as to the public from the opening of said intended Road.
Ordered that the Sheriff procure two Tables and two Chairs for the use of the Court and Clerk to be paid out of the depositums of the County Levy if so much there be of 1795 or 1796.
