Constantine Toma
Louisville Weekly Journal, Wednesday, 12 November 1851, page 1
An Italian named Constantine Tomto (sic), was drowned in the river opposite Fifth street, on Saturday. He had arrived on Friday evening from Newport Ky. where he has two children living, his wife having left him. He manufactured plaster of Paris figures and was on his way to Memphis. On Saturday morning he went about town to see his friends and about noon returned, intoxicated, to the house where he lodged, kept by an Italian in Williams Row.
After taking dinner he said he would swim over to the island and divesting himself of all his clothing except his shirt and drawers, walked to the river and threw himself in. He swam nearly to the island and sank. His body has not yet been found.
