SON OF FT THOMAS RESIDENT-Clifford E Wylie, son of Sergt. Alexander Wylie, retired army Sergeant now living at Ft Thomas, arrested at Salt Lake City, Utah, Wednesday, according to a dispatch. He took a heavy dose of morphine. Wylie was a member of Company C Twelfth United States Infantry, stationed near Salt Lake. He was released Wednesday from the guardhouse at Ft Douglas after serving a short sentence for a tariffing misdemeanor.
The disgrace of the guardhouse it is believed, drove him to commit suicide. He made his way to a room in the American House at Salt Lake and took two ounces of the poison. Wylie was 19 years old and ran away from his home at Ft Thomas three years ago. His father heard from him a month ago when he said in a letter that he was in a hospital at Ft Douglas. The lad was a cigarette fiend and the use of them undermined his health. His father was a member of the Regular Army for 36 years.
