Chris Ebert, Jailer of Newport, won a signal victory in the Campbell Circuit Court in his suit against the city. The case was submitted for judgment on motion of the petitioner. The city is attempting to require the Jailer to account for and pay to the city fees received by him from the county of Campbell, the State of Kentucky and the United States Government and is contrary to public policy and as illegal and void.

The Court of Appeals reversed today the case of the city of Newport vs. Christian Ebert, and held that Ebert, as Jailer of Newport, must comply with the ordinance which says he must account to the city for fees received from county and Federal prisoners and these fees must make up the difference between $1500 and $1800 or the city must pay the deficit.

A fight is being made to secure the release of Charles Dickerson, of Louisville, who is being held a prisoner in Newport Jail awaiting a hearing on a charge of robbery. The defendants named in the petition are Magistrate G S Quehl of the Highland District and Jailer Ebert of Newport.

Once in politics and its hard to keep out. This old adage applies to Christian Ebert, veteran Newport office holder, who has announced his candidacy for city commissioner in the October primaries. Ebert served eight years as safety commissioner and a term each as city jailer and commissioner of public property.
