CHRIS MILIUS DIES
Clerk of Campbell County, Kentucky Is Influenza Victim
------ an attack of influenza, Chris Milius, Clerk of Campbell
County, Kentucky died yesterday at 2 pm at this home, 629 Linden avenue.
Newport Death, which followed a week's deaths was due directly to double
pneumonia that resulted from the influenza. Mr. Milius was 41 years old.
He is survived by his widow and two children, Dorothy and Robert Milius.
Mr. Milius was serving his second term as Clerk of Campbell County, having been elected to succeed himself in the fall of 1917 by a majority of 3,875 votes. He was elected the first time in the fall of 1913, having been previously defeated for the office. he had resided in Newport practically all his life.
Mr. Milius had served as Deputy Sheriff under former Sheriffs Joseph Dietz, John P Nagel and Daniel Riedel. Messrs. Dietz, Nagel and Riedel and Deputy County Clerks Harry R Owen, George Kaufman and Paul Graham have been selected as pallbearers.
At the time of his death Mr. Milius was acting as Exalted Ruler of Newport Lodge of Elks. He was a member of the Masons, Odd Fellows, Eagles, Junior Order and Red Men. Mr. Millius was a Director of the Citizens Bank and Trust Company and the Kentucky Loan and Building Association.
Appointment of Mr. Milius's successor is to be made at once by County Judge A M Caldwell. The office of County Clerk in Kentucky is an office of record and probate, and Deputies Harry Owen and George Kaufmann cannot act legally now that their official duties ended with the life of their chief. it was announced the Clerk's office will be kept open for the inspection of records, but no papers are to be received for filing or probate until the appointment of a clerk.
