NEWPORT
A Surviving Pioneer
Charles H Horner, a pioneer resident of Newport, celebrated his
eighty-first birthday anniversary yesterday. He floated down the Ohio from
Virginia in a flatboat and with his parents settled at Fourth and Columbia
streets nearly 75 years ago.
Mr. Horner carried the mail from Cincinnati to Newport and Covington at the time Hunt Mayo was Postmaster of this city, at a salary of $50 per year.
