Captain Charles and
Keturah Ward

Captain Charles Ward was born in 1795 the eldest of fifteen children born to
Daniel and Bridget (French) Ward. Daniel Ward was born January 30, 1764 at
Plymouth, New Hampshire, the tenth child of Rev Nathan Ward and Tamasin Ireland.
Tamasin was born at Charlestown, Mass, January 1, 1722, and died August 16,
1777. Daniel died August 19, 1841 in Marion County Indiana.
Charles' mother, Bridget French was born January 14, 1772 and died near Madison Indiana, May 26, 1828. He married Keturah Taylor "Catherine" Lindsey, daughter of Thomas Sr. and Rebecca (Harris) Lindsey June 4, 1819. At the time Charles was in the U.S. Army.

home of his daughter Kate Ward Sumpter, Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Captain Ward's letters describe his experiences at the various points at which he was stationed, while in the Army. The burning of Fort Delaware is well recorded as well as an account of their shipwreck. Captain Ward retired from the Army and in 1837 was appointed Postmaster at Kichafoona, Marion County, Georgia, where he resided for several years.
In a letter dated September 17, 1848 from Washington D.C., Charles wrote to his sister, Mrs. Keeler of Indiana "Having received the appointment of an Executive Clerkship here, in the War Department, it is probable that I may continue to reside here for a considerable time, though I hope to be able in the course of a year or two to go to the Western Country with Mrs. Ward for the purpose of visiting her relatives and mine."
He died in 1850 in Washington D.C. and was buried in the
Congressional Cemetery.
