Charles Campbell and Elizabeth L Speers

Charles Campbell Speers was born 28 Dec 1821 in Rostraver,
Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, the son of Abraham Speers and Margaret
Campbell. He married Elizabeth L Martin 2 March 1846, in Galveston Texas.
Elizabeth L Martin was born 1818 in London England. Charles became a
well-known riverboat Captain and made a fortune during the Civil War in cotton.

SPEERS-At Springfield Mo. December 31st at 8 am Charles A Speers formerly of this city. Interment at Spring Grove Cemetery. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel Tuesday Jan 3d at 11 am. Carriages will leave Dayton Ky. at 9 am and John F Wiltsee's Sixth st. at 10 am.

After the Civil War, Charles and Elizabeth retired to Cincinnati were living there by 1868, where they remained until moving to Dayton Ky. in 1883. Charles C Speers died 20 March 1885. He was buried 2 April in Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. Elizabeth L Speers died 13 August 1894 in Dayton also and was buried 16 August in Spring Grove Cemetery. She left an estate of a huge amount for the time and instructed that her money be used to build a hospital in Dayton named after her husband.
