Charles T and Sophia E Pearson

Information comes from the family files at the Campbell County Historical Society in Alexandria.

Charles G Pearson was born in Cincinnati, Ohio October 1819 and married Sophia E Ransted 6 Aug 1849 in Cincinnati.  Sophia Ransted was born in 1833 in Massachusetts the daughter of Lydia Ransted.  By 1840 Lydia Ransted, a widow, is listed in the 1840 City Directory as a seamstress on the west side of Court Street west of Elm.  In 1850 Sophia's sister Henrietta Ransted was living with them, and Lydia was next door.

Charles worked as a millwright most of his life before he moved to Grants Lick in the 1870s. He owned a sawmill there and in 1879, he purchased 111 acres of property and log cabin on Morning View Road originally owned by Reuben Loomis.  He moved his sawmill business to the new property.  In 1895 he lost the property to Phoenix Loan & Building Association.  However his son, Charles G regained the title in 1905 less the school house lot the Phoenix L& B conveyed to the Campbell County School Board for the Oakland Log School.  When the school was replaced with a frame building, the lumber came from Pearson's sawmill.
