Acute alcoholism is Coroner Digby's finding as to the death of
Charles Paul, a tollgate keeper, of Persimmon Grove, Campbell co. Paul was found
dead at his home yesterday morning by John Hully, a neighboring farmer. Evidence
showed that Paul had consumed five gallons of whisky during the week preceding
his death. Late Saturday he drove his wife and four children from home and
forced them to seek refuse at the home of William Parker.
He brandished a razor and threatened to kill them if they should return. Hully, with one of Paul's sons returned home yesterday morning to get some clothing for other members of the family. They found Paul lying in a position which indicated that he had attempted to climb into bed and had fallen over the footboard.
